Copied from Clarence VanDyne's "Descendants of John VanDuyn"
1. JOHN VAN DUYN was born Bet. 1761 - 1762 in New Jersey, and died aft. 1850 in Wabash Co., Indiana. He married (1) ??? ABT 1790. She was born Unknown, and died ABT 1805. He married (2) Elizabeth??? ABT 1808. She was born ABT 1789, and died December 25, 1832 in Coshocton, Ohio.
Notes for JOHN VAN DUYN: 1. The 1820 Census for Belmont Co., Ohio list an Isaac Van Duyn and his wife, both are over the age of 45+ years and have no children living with them. Due to the records being maintained at that time, it is believed these people were probably in their late 70's or early 80's and may have been the parents of this John of 1762.
This family was in Belmont Co., Ohio as early as 1812 as documented by the marriage record of Thomas Van Dyne to a Margaret Way in that year. It is my belief that this Isaac may also be the father of a Walter Van Duyn, born 1766 in New Jersey and settled in the Jefferson Co. area of Ohio which had a Fort at Steubenville, Ohio. This is a theory of mine and I have found no documentation to prove it. I believe this family group moved into the Fort area at Steubenville upon their entry into Ohio and part of the family remained in that area while some of them moved on into the Belmont Co., area.
There is no mention of an Isaac or his wife in the 1830 census for Belmont Co., Ohio which leads me to believe this couple passed away sometime between 1820 & 1830.
John Van Duyn was still in Belmont Co., Ohio as of the 1830 census but he began moving West after the census; his wife Elizabeth died in about 1832 in Conshocton, Ohio.
All but two of his sons moved with John from the Belmont Co. area, they were Asa, Born 1805 in Ohio; and John, born abt 1800 in Ohio; descendants of these two sons can still be found living in Belmont Co. Ohio.
It has been related that this family traveled from New Jersey and settled in Pennsylvania for a period of time before moving on towards Ohio. I have no proof of their movements but it was stated they moved from Pennsylvania because one of them had married an Indian girl and the family was having a hard time finding work after that. This story was related to me by a William Morris who indicates it was told to him by Abraham Van Dyne the son of John and Elvira Van Dyne.
2. The 1850 census for Wabash, Indiana list John Van Duyn, age 88, and place of birth-New Jersey.
3. The Broderbund Family Tree Maker's Family Archives, Vol 48 tree #0513 shows an un-named Van Duyne married to an Indian girl. The family listed as one of their sons belongs to John Van Duyn, B: 1762 in NJ should be listed as the son of Thomas Van Duyn/Van Dyne.
Notes for ???: 1. This marriage probably took place in either NJ or PA. It has been reported that one of the Van Duyns married an Indian girl which eventually led to their leaving Pennsylvania for Ohio because they couldn't find work. No record of this marriage has been found to date.

Notes for ELIZABETH ???: 1. Believe Elizabeth died in 1832 and her grave site is located some place in Coshocton, Ohio. Based on the age given, 43, her birth date would probably have been some place in 1788 - 1789. More About ELIZABETH ???: Burial: Coshocton Co., OH
